Ione, Metaline, Metaline Falls

The Emergency Food Pantry of Ione serves Ione as well other outlying areas such as Metaline and Metaline Falls. Ione pantry does a lot with a little, functioning out of an old 8′ by 25’railroad car perched beside the Catholic Church.

The pantry has power but that’s about it, there is currently no running water or restroom facilities. They are working toward securing a permanent location and building a pole barn structure.

There small facilities don’t stop them from serving the community well. They are not going to let anyone go hungry.

Each month they serve 130-150 households, many are fixed income seniors or low-income families. Close community ties keep them in contact with the school, so they are able to operate a backpack program that sends extra food home with children in need over the weekend. All five volunteers have full-time jobs, but they manage to continue serving others at the food pantry.
