The Emergency Food Bank of Ione began 45 years ago when residents Charlie Whitehouse and George Legris decided there was a need,  These two gentlemen and their wives acquired the back-end of a refrigerator truck and set it up on land belonging to the local Catholic Church.  The two couples raised money by having a yearly yard sale. They formed a non-profit agency and established a small board of directors that met once a year.  Charlie and his wife passed away and George and his wife moved from the area, but the Food Bank still operates out of the trailer and is in the same spot at 302 N 8th Street in Ione.

The Ione Food Bank serves all of the North Pend Oreille County, as far as Cusick Creek to the south and the Canadian Border to the north.

About 150 families are served during the year with many of them getting supplies monthly.
The Food bank has a board that consists of President, Vice President, Secretary/ Treasurer, plus 2 board members.

With the cuts in the Food Stamp program we expect more usage and will need to buy food to meet the need. Donations are greatly appreciated.
