Harvest Against Hunger (HAH)

Harvest Against Hunger in northeast Washington is the collaborative effort of Rotary First Harvest, Providence NEW Hunger Coalition, Americorps VISTA, food pantries, and growers. This program utilizes local resources in a produce recovery model that builds partnerships between food pantries and farmers.

As part of a 3-year project, an AmeriCorps VISTA member (known as a Harvest VISTA) will live and work in northeast Washington to engage the community with HAH initiatives (Farm to Food Pantry, Plant-a-Row, gleaning, and Grower’s Roundtable) that support local hunger relief organizations. Through this effort, these volunteers are building sustainable and scalable programs that support local growers while simultaneously improving access to healthier food choices for hungry families.

Grower’s Round Table Events

In an effort to capture our local growers vital input on the Purchasing Program, Gleaning Project and general agricultural opportunities of the area the Hunger Coalition and WSU Extension Office partnered to present the first two Grower’s Round Table events in the Fall of 2014.

Fourteen farms were represented at these first two round table events, and their involvement and support has helped guide the development and direction of our projects.

Additional Grower’s Round Table events will be held in the Spring and Fall of 2015. Mileage reimbursement is available for growers, door prizes and appetizers will also be present.
